Boutique Design Events and Trade Fairs

Milwaukee is getting a new independent arts hotel in the spring of next year. Saint Kate, named for the patron saint of artists Saint Catherine, will strive to create collaboration among its guests by blending hospitality with artistic expression. The former InterContinental Hotel will be owned and managed by Marcus Hotels & Resorts.

Located in the heart of Milwaukee’s theater and entertainment district, the 219-room hotel will feature art-inspired guestrooms. A throw blanket designed by Milwaukee artist Christiane Grauert will adorn the foot of each bed. Closet interiors will showcase trees painted by another local artist, Todd Mrozinski. Sinks and bathtubs in guest bathrooms will feature designs by local artists as well.

The property will include 13,000 sq. ft. of meeting space; 11 event rooms, bars and lounges; and three restaurants. Plans call for a theater that will host plays, lectures, classes, and musical and dance performances. The hotel will also include a gallery space, an artist-in-residence studio and event spaces that will house rotating exhibits, screenings and workshops.

Saint Kate’s team is seeking proposals from artists across the globe that will be reviewed by an independent arts advisory board comprised of leaders from Milwaukee arts organizations and other creative influencers.
