2019 GOLD KEY AWARDS
BEST GUESTROOM FOCUSED SERVICE
MOXY WASHINGTON D.C. DOWNTOWN
THE DESIGN FIRMS: dash design, New York; FILLAT + Architecture, Washington, D.C
THE MUSE: Make guestrooms feel like (the coolest ever) home. And please avoid a cheesy spin on D.C. references.
THE MAGIC: “We wanted to embrace American Modernism,” says David Ashen, executive creative director, dash design. That stripped-down geometry starts with the facade. It also gives the translucent glass boxes that frame the guest bathrooms (a spacesaving brand signature) added context.
THE MAVERICK MOVE: Handsome is as handsome feels. Leather, wood and carpet all combine to form a space that’s equal parts visual and tactile.
THE MESSAGE: It’s worth standing up for some upgrades, even in a small room. Here, a rug under the bed adds an “aah” moment for guests. Strapping on the headboard ups its ante.
