Gold Key – Specialty Design

The Highlights: The challenge was to design a venue that can be activated beyond game day at this 18,000-seat sports arena—home to the NBA’s Golden State Warriors—and provide a variety of experiences for fans and guests. The lobbies create a grand experience akin to civic buildings through the use of space, light, and materiality, which also highlights a centerpiece, 80-foot LED chandelier that changes colors and sets the mood depending on the event. On the west end, the lobby’s fluid shape follows the natural curves of the exterior, creating a dynamic space that includes a sculpted staircase encased with wood. A wall of windows creates an openness that is accentuated by a minimal color palette that is the backdrop for art and an Alexander Calder installation.

“Our design inspiration came from the Bay Area’s abundance of natural beauty and flawless sense of casual sophistication,” says Edith Ponciano, senior interior designer, Gensler Sports. “We wanted to capture the championship character and ethos of the Golden State Warriors’ past and future success through a refined and timeless palette.”
