North Block hotel in Napa Valley’s Yountville is opening a new restaurant, helmed by chef Nick Tamburo (formerly of Momofuku), concepted by local designer Erin Martin.
Martin tapped into international artisans to create a setting that complements the culinary direction. Berlin muralist Michael Dute was commissioned to hand paint a statement mural of egrets, which are local to the area and bring that courtyard feeling inside. On another wall, artists Owen Mann of Ithaca, New York, was commissioned to create handmade porcelain magnolia flowers in various blossoming stages, alongside a few large dahlias, each installed individually. The green leather banquettes are two leathers mixed together, “sorrel” and “apple lime,” sourced from the Hide & Leather House in Napa with the back seats upholstered in a horizontal “tuck and roll” style common in older auto upholstery.
Erin Martin Design also created leather greenery hanging from the ceiling, each piece completely unique, as well as created a wait station out of blackened steel, brass caps, and wooden dowels. On the decorative wine wall (shown), white stripes were created by dipping half of the bottles in white paint. Live agave and paddle cactus are also found throughout the dining room.
