A 64-room hotel is being proposed in Miami Beach at the site of three two-story rental buildings designed by architect Henry Hohauser in 1934, according to a report in the Miami Herald. Development plans submitted by José Fernandez, president of Fernandez Properties, call for adding 14 hotel rooms and a restaurant to the two corner buildings. A seven-story, 50-room hotel, the Hohauser, takes the place of the current building in the center, with only its façade remaining.
Miami-based Studio Mc+G Architecture has been selected to design the project. The City of Miami Beach Historic Preservation Board is expected to be presented with the project next month.
