Halekulani Heads to Japan
Champalimaud Design leads interior design
Halekulani Okinawa, situated on the main island of Okinawa, Japan, officially opened its doors. The project includes a 360-room luxury hotel inspired by its sister property, Halekulani Waikiki on Oahu.
Interiors were designed by Champalimaud Design to feel as if the ocean is inside the rooms. The design team strived to embody a space where the sky, land and sea meet. The accommodations also include 47 suites and five Cliffside villas.
Four signature restaurants, as well as a variety of casual dining options, round out the offerings. Carefully curated by two Michelin-starred chef, Hiroyasu Kawate, Shiroux, meaning "white" in Okinawan, features haute cuisine showcased throughout dishes that marry traditional French dishes with Japanese ingredients. Aomi, inspired by the surrounding sea and sky and highlights the color blue, or "Ao" in Japanese, offers a selection of traditional Japanese dishes with a twist. Upscale steakhouse Kingdom provides a selection of local meat. Then, House Without a Key is named after the restaurant at Halekulani Waikiki. The food and beverage outlets are topped off with cocktail joint Bar Spectra.
