Designed by international firm Wilson Associates’ Singapore studio, Marriot’s new Mesm Tokyo, Autograph Collection is situated in the city’s newly popular central business district dubbed WATERS Takeshiba.
Inspired by the philosophy of Kando, which translates to “to move people emotionally,” the design team strived to inspire the five senses with every design decision.
“Kando is an emotional and spiritual involvement,” says Leonard Lee, regional managing director at Wilson Associates’ Singapore and Tokyo studios. “It is the spirit of being able to connect with our guests and elicit a deep and elusive emotional response. It is our constant pursuit to create interior spaces that engage sensory perceptions. It is what touches you rather than what you can see.”
Drawing inspiration from the surrounding Takeshiba waterfront and the historic neighboring Hamarikyu Garden, the design team harmonized cultural tradition and innovation by way of expansive murals, accent lighting, and curated materials and finishes.
Guestrooms further underscore a dedication to unexpected luxury, featuring inviting tones and intricate detailing—all while capitalizing on sweeping views of the nearby park and Tokyo Bay.
