Pentahotels has hired Eugène Staal as its president, effective next month. Based in Frankfurt, Staal will manage the lifestyle hotel group’s global operations and brand development.
Staal brings more than 25 years of corporate hospitality experience to his new role. His career includes establishing Hyatt’s EAME office in Lausanne and working for Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group in Brussels as senior vice president of technical services, where he helped develop the Radisson Blu and Park Inn brands in Europe, Africa and Middle East. More recently, Staal founded YawnWorld, an apartment rental concept, and MisterSteel, a hospitality consultancy.
“Throughout his career, Eugène has demonstrated a talent for entrepreneurial leadership, strong belief in a company’s culture as a brand, and serving as an active pioneer in having associates act as entrepreneurs to represent the brand ethos,” says Sonia Cheng, ceo of Rosewood Hotel Group, pentahotels’ parent company. “This vision perfectly aligns with pentahotels’ culture, as we look to propel the brand and its new message, ‘We don’t do normal,’ around the globe.”
Pentahotels currently operates 28 hotels in seven countries. Planned openings include its first Russian hotel in Moscow, in time for the 2018 FIFA World Cup event there, as well as a property in Bangkok.
