Living Coral: Pantone’s COY
Marriott’s Tribute partners with color authority to create immersive pop-up pantries
Pantone’s Color of the Year for 2019 is as bright as the natural formations that inspired it.
Just as coral reefs are a source of sustenance and shelter to sea life, the color authority says that vibrant-yet-mellow PANTONE 16-1546 Living Coral embraces with warmth and nourishment to provide comfort and buoyancy in a continually shifting environment. The color is described as embodying desire for playful expression amid a world that's becoming increasingly connected to screens and digital technology via social media.
“Color is an equalizing lens through which we experience our natural and digital realities and this is particularly true for Living Coral,” says Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute. “With consumers craving human interaction and social connection, the humanizing and heartening qualities displayed by the convivial Pantone Living Coral hit a responsive chord.”
In addition, Pantone has partnered with Tribute Portfolio, Marriott Intl.’s collection of independent hotels, to create a pop-up pantry as a tribute to color at select hotels. Tribute Portfolio and Pantone will introduce a series of interactive pantries in communities, beginning at Art Basel Miami at the Royal Palm South Beach Miami Resort and then traveling to The Alida Hotel in Savannah, Georgia and The Slaak Rotterdam, in The Netherlands next year.
