Katara Takes on Grosvenor House
Iconic hotel originally opened in London in 1929
Katara Hospitality, the hotel arm of Qatar Investment Authority, is expanding its global portfolio with the acquisition of the historic 496-room JW Marriott Grosvenor House in London.
The hotel originally opened in 1929 and has been frequented by royalty and celebrities since. It was the first hotel in London to have a separate bathroom and entrance lobby for each bedroom as well as running cold water in every bathroom. The iconic hotel was also the headquarters of the International Sportsmen’s Club at the time, when its facilities included Turkish baths, a swimming pool, squash courts and a gymnasium. Now the 5-star hotel is operated by Marriott Intl. It has a fitness center and 31 meeting rooms.
Katara’s acquisition brings the group’s portfolio in operation and in the pipeline to 40 properties and marks its third acquisition in London. Katara also had purchased The Savoy, A Fairmont Managed Hotel and the Adria Boutique Hotel.
