HOTEL EMBLEM FINDS HOME IN SAN FRAN

Design inspired by the Beat Generation

San Francisco-based Wilson Ishihara is leading the design for public spaces at the Hotel Emblem, while Hatch Design Group tackles the property’s 96 rooms. Formerly the Hotel Rex, the new San Francisco property will open in 2019 after owner DiamondRock Hospitality Company—a new member of The Viceroy Urban Retreats—completes a total renovation of the building.

The design is inspired by the Beat Generation, and a poetry projection wall will become a centerpiece of the aesthetic. Staying with the literary theme, a book-filled Writer’s Alcove rounds out the lobby. Mid-century contemporary furniture and low glowing lights will be strewn throughout the hotel. Diverse décor and a bold color palette will reflect the shades of the San Francisco’s past and present in the guestrooms. The hotel will also include a bar and an on-site coffee shop and café.
