Zimone Brings Pizzeria to LA
L'Antica Pizzeria da Michele design inspired by Italian courtyards
The first U.S. location for the historic pizzeria featured in the film Eat Pray Love, Italian Neapolitan pizzeria L'Antica Pizzeria da Michele will arrive in Los Angeles this spring, located in the space that once housed Hollywood’s Café Des Artistes.
Owner and designer Francesco Zimone was inspired by Italian courtyards, which serve as central gathering points for locals. Guests are seated in “il cortile,” the restaurant’s garden, where they can watch pizzas being prepared in the stone oven through a glass encasing. Zimone handcrafted much of the 3,000 sq. ft. interior himself to bring an atmosphere of classic Italian meets contemporary California with blue and white tiles decorating the walls, and natural wood and Baltic stone integrated throughout the terrace and interior.
