The Foundry Opens in Asheville
Lagom leads interior design of the Curio Collection hotel
Asheville, North Carolina’s The Foundry Hotel opened this week as part of the Curio Collection by Hilton. Managed by Charlestowne Hotels, the 87-room boutique is an adaptive reuse project that combines two new buildings with three structures from the city's original foundry, which forged steel for prominent regional sites such as The Biltmore Estate. Lagom Interiors led the design for the project, while Charleston, S.C.-based Encore Lodging served as the hotel’s developer.
Architectural elements nod to the property’s roots, such as original brick and hardwood floors, the former pulley elevator on display, exposed beams, steel-star fastenings and industrial-style windows. Guestrooms range in size from 315 to 1,200 sq. ft.
The property also houses a cocktail bar Workshop Lounge, restaurant Benne on Eagle and a retail marketplace. Additionally, 4,000 sq. ft. of meeting space includes a main courtyard curated by the North Carolina Arboretum.
The Foundry Hotel, which first unveiled plans in 2015, joins Charlestowne’s growing collection of adaptive reuse projects, including The Collector Luxury Inn & Gardens in St. Augustine, Florida; The Fairlane Hotel in Nashville, Tennessee; Hotel Clermont in Atlanta; and The Bristol Hotel in Bristol, Virginia.
