New-build boutique to open in South Beach
San Francisco’s South Beach will soon be home to Hotel VIA, a 159-key, independently owned and operated boutique. Slated to open later this year across the street from AT&T Park, the project is the first new-build hotel in the neighborhood since 2005.

The 12-story property is being designed by locally based Stanton Architecture and will feature interior spaces by two other San Francisco firms: C Walters Design and Jean-Pierre Berthy. Plans include 148 rooms and 11 suites, some of which will overlook the ballpark, the Bay Bridge and the East Bay Hills. Accommodations will showcase a minimalist loft design concept outfitted with custom furniture.
Both the building’s exterior and interiors are being designed to complement the waterfront neighborhood, which encompasses a mix of historic brick warehouses and new luxury lofts, high rises and condos along the bay. Project participants say the hotel’s materials and fabrics will also reflect the local environment.
A 3,000-sq.-ft. rooftop venue designed by C Walters will encompass an indoor and outdoor lounge decked out with draped cabanas, contemporary furniture, wind-proof glass, communal tables and open-air fire pits. Other property highlights will include a breakfast café, a meeting room, event spaces, a communal workspace and technology hub, a fitness center and an upscale bar adjacent to the hotel lobby.
The property’s name takes cues from the word “via,” meaning “the way to your destination,” as the locale offers access to San Francisco and the Bay Area. Hotel VIA plans to welcome its first guests July 1.
