Studio Munge, Teeple team on project

Nobu Hospitality has unveiled plans to debut its first-ever integrated condo, hotel and restaurant complex, in Toronto’s Entertainment District. The project will feature the world’s first Nobu-branded residences—which will be developed by the Madison Group and managed by Westdale Properties—as well as the first hotel and restaurant for the flag in Canada.

The complex will showcase architecture by Teeple Architects and interiors by Gold Key Award-winning design firm Studio Munge, both of which are based in Toronto.

Comprised of twin 49-story towers on Mercer Street with a cubist aesthetic, the project will be on the site of a Pilkington Glass Factory, and its retail frontage will incorporate elements of that historic brick building's façade, Urban Toronto reports. The hotel will house 102 guest rooms, according to the local news source.

Those accommodations are planned for the top of the project’s west tower. The hospitality component will also include a 15,000-sq.-ft., two-level Nobu restaurant featuring a bar lounge, outdoor seating and private dining rooms.

Meanwhile, the 700 condo suites will be housed in both towers. The project will also involve a multi-level podium with ground-floor retail, private event space, a fitness center and a “Zen Garden” outdoor terrace.

“For many years we have searched for the perfect opportunity to create a true luxury lifestyle destination befitting the acclaimed global city of Toronto and our international brand,” says said Trevor Horwell, ceo, Nobu Hospitality, whose backers include actor Robert DeNiro, Hollywood film producer Meir Teper and celebrity chef Nobu Matsuhisa. “We are truly excited to announce Nobu Residences, Hotel and Restaurant Toronto, which we are crafting to be a game changer in residential living in Toronto and beyond. Our partners at Madison Group have an extraordinary vision for the first Nobu Residences, and share our passion to build a truly special integrated residences, hotel and restaurant destination.”

Construction on the project is slated to start next year. Nobu also plans to debut a residential complex in Los Cabos, according to the hospitality company’s website.
