NEWH Honors Steve Higgins With Scholarship Fund … and More

The Crypton Cos. promoted Jack Eger to senior vice president. Eger joined the company in 2011 as the vice president of sales, and his expanded responsibilities now include the management and development of the Crypton sales force across all business segments.

Cachet Hotel Group (CHG) hired Justin Guo for the newly created position of, president of hotel operations. Guo will lead the group’s operation and expansion and to oversee architectural design and new project management. His career includes 17 years with Hilton Hotels & Resorts.

Maryam Banikarim joined Hyatt Hotels Corp. as chief marketing officer. Most recently Banikarim served as chief marketing officer at the Gannett Co.

Hospitality consulting and services organization HVS appointed Bill Conn vice president of its executive search division. Conn has previously worked with Barrie House, Elliot Group and Lucas Consulting and currently serves as an advisory board member for Flow Corp.

Interstate Hotels & Resorts appointed Laura E. FitzRandolph as executive vice president and chief human resources officer and Erica H. Hageman as executive vice president and general counsel.

Frank Juranich joined Nemo Tile Co. as chief operating officer. For the past seven years, Juranich served as chief financial officer for Port Morris Tile & Marble Corp.

Lighting by Gregory chief lighting designer Clifford Starr was elected chapter president of the Designers Lighting Forum of New York (DLFNY). Starr’s appointment comes after serving a two-year term as vice president and as a board member for five years.

FOH Inc., a manufacturer of commercial serving products and hotel accessory collections, hired Alexia Rouquette as director of marketing.


Steve Higgins, founder of boutique purchasing company Canoe Hospitality, died on Dec. 25. An NEWH scholarship has been established to honor Higgins’s contribution to the hospitality industry. The Steve Higgins Mentor Scholarship Fund is now accepting donations.

Robert Edward Kokoszka, a Dixie Group consultant and former president and chief operating officer of Burtco, died Jan. 2.
