Designed Space for BDNY/BDwest created by Stonehill & Taylor

Stonehill & Taylor’s design of Kino, a lounge concept created for the Boutique Design New York (BDNY) and Boutique Design West (BDwest) trade fairs, has been named a winner in the 2016 Restaurant & Bar Design Awards. Kino took top honors in the International and U.K. pop-up category.

The New York-based architecture/interior design firm’s vision for the Designed Space on the trade fairs’ exhibit floors was inspired by carved wooden homes in Siberia, the designers say. The airy space marries high-contrast overtones with a neutral palette and showcases imagery from Russian cinema. It was named a finalist in the competition in July.

“I can imagine this in every major city of the world,” says competition judge Bielle Bellingham, editor in chief of Elle Decoration in South Africa. “It is both modern and classic, reproducible, scalable and has mass appeal, while being incredibly unique.”

The competition was judged by a panel of 34 high-profile design, hospitality and lifestyle professionals and drew more than 1,000 entries from the U.K. and 70 other countries.

Now in its eighth year, the competition recognizing F&B design covers spaces ranging from ships to airports, museums to burger vans and Michelin-starred establishments to pop-ups. This year’s winners in 38 categories were unveiled at an awards ceremony on Sept. 29 at London’s Old Truman Brewery.
