KSL Capital plans revamp of 1920s hotel
Hotel Viking in Newport, Rhode Island, has joined Davidson Hotels & Resorts’ luxury/lifestyle division. Now part of Pivot Hotels & Resorts, the 208-key property was acquired by an affiliate of KSL Capital Partners earlier this month and will undergo a multi-million-dollar renovation—which will involve updates to its guest rooms and public spaces—later this year.
Dating to 1926, the hotel’s guest rooms feature Egyptian cotton bed linens, pillow-top mattresses and ornately carved headboards. Other on-site amenities consist of the One Bellevue Restaurant & Bar and the Top of Newport, a rooftop bar overlooking the Newport Harbor and Narragansett Bay. Nearly 15,000 sq. ft. of meeting space, a fitness center, an indoor pool, a wedding chapel and a full-service spa are also on tap.
“We are elated to add yet another historic landmark to the Pivot portfolio,” says Albert Smith, senior vice president of Pivot Hotels & Resorts, whose independent and branded assets in the upper-upscale to luxury segments include 42 hotels throughout the U.S.
