Hotelier teams with Gaw, Chang on new brand
The co-owners of the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel in California have tapped veteran hotelier Stephen Brandman as ceo of their newly formed hotel management company, Journal Hotels. Brandman previously played a pivotal role at The Hollywood Roosevelt when it launched under Thompson Hotels in the early 2000s.
In his new role, Brandman will oversee the operations of Journal Hotels, which includes properties in Los Angeles (The Hollywood Roosevelt, The MacArthur and The Bradbury); San Francisco (Hotel G), Desert Hot Springs (Two Bunch Palms Spa and Resort); and Chicago (Public). Additionally, Brandman will help grow the brand in strategic locations and new markets.
“I am delighted to be working with Stephen again as he was instrumental in helping launch the Hollywood Roosevelt several years ago and has great experience in building brands,” says Goodwin Gaw, who co-owns the Hollywood Roosevelt with David Chang.
Says Brandman of his new role: “I am delighted to working side by side with Goodwin and David and assisting with the growth of the Journal Hotels brand and overseeing the evolution of the Hollywood Roosevelt.” Brandman was co-founder and ceo of Thompson Hotels and Commune Hotels before selling his stake in those companies.
Brandman will oversee Journal Hotels’ affiliated properties, whose names will soon bear a “by Journal” tagline. The company said its latest acquisition, Public in Chicago, will be rebranded and renovated under Brandman’s direction this year. In addition, the firm also said it plans to renovate Two Bunch Palms and the Hotel G, which will open a new restaurant in partnership with a Michelin-starred chef this spring.
